Pony Express Ride Day

Did you know…

… that today is Pony Express Ride Day? On April 9, 1983, a massive landslide crashed down along California’s American River Canyon, affecting several small mountain communities, causing millions of tourist dollars to be lost along with disruption of public services — postal delivery among them. A conversation between a Pony Express association member and a postmaster prompted carrying the mail by horseback. A contract was signed and the first day in the saddle was April 15. The most important mail was income-tax returns from the outlying towns.

Today’s Inspirational Quote:

“It is a common experience that a problem difficult at night is resolved in the morning after the committee of sleep has worked on it.”

— John Steinbeck
